Intraosseous Training |
-
The technique of intraosseous infusion was first
described in humans in 1934 and it became
increasingly popular in the 1940s. In recent years
it has regained popularity especially in pediatric
resuscitation. Unfortunately many Healthcare
Providers do not
know this technique or do not employ it. However, intraosseous infusion is one of the quickest ways to
establish access for the rapid infusion of fluids,
drugs and blood products in emergency situations as
well as for resuscitation. In many countries
children are the victims of war trauma, road traffic
accidents or severe dehydration and need good
intravenous access, this technique can be
life-saving. In these situations peripheral venous
access can be difficult to obtain and alternatives
such as central venous access can be difficult
and/or dangerous.
-
The marrow cavity is in continuity with the venous
circulation and can therefore be used to infuse
fluids and drugs. (please note that these
IO training products are not designed to have fluid infused, but
are to be used for IO needle insertion practice only)
-
In experienced hands, intraosseous access can be
established within 1 minute.
-
It has been shown that the onset of action and drug
levels during cardiopulmonary resuscitation using
the intraosseous route are similar to those given
intravenously.

Foam Cortical Shell:
Foam cortical shell models are made of a rigid foam
shell with inner cancellous material. These models
cut and drill easier than the plastic cortical shell
models.
-
Solid Foam:
Solid foam models are made of rigid foam throughout.
This is an economical material for general anatomy.
-
Soft Tissue:
The properties and feel of the soft tissue models
are very close to the feel of real soft tissue.
Soft tissue can serve as a firm and
supportive fixture for IO application.
-
Intraosseous insertion practice is an important
part of any advanced life support training program.
For years, the use of animal products were
considered acceptable, until realistic replacements
were developed.
-
All these products can be used multiple times
and provide the realistic training for both adult
and pediatric IO insertion.

insertion system.
